Region

Saint-Aubin is a village in the Côte de Beaune sub-region of Burgundy, nestled between the hillsides of a sub-valley in the Côte d`Or escarpment. While not the most famous of the Côte d`Or villages, especially compared to the renown of its more famous neighbours; Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet, Saint-Aubin is one of Burgundy`s top performing wine communes in terms of both volume and vineyard quality; nearly three-quarters of its sites have premier cru status. Furthermore, while Saint-Aubin wines are rarely considered to be among the region`s finest, they are known for offering excellent value for money and can provide a good introduction to Burgundy wines of both colors.

Producer

Gerard Thomas has been running this Saint-Aubin based estate since 1982 and is now helped by his two daughters, Isabelle and Anne in both viticulture and winemaking. After expading the domaine in Cotes de Beaune, aquiring vineyards within premium locations such as Chassagne and Puligny Montrachet, the estate now holds 12 hectares of vines within the Cote d`Or.
Tasting Notes
The `Murgers des dents de Chien` vineyards is the domaines finest plot. It is situated on the border of Puligny Montrachet, adjoining two premier cru sites. This Saint Aubin 1er Cru is barrel fermented, 25% new oak is used followed by ten months in cask during which time regular lees stirring adds a good depth of flavour. The resulting wine has ripe citrus and fresh peach aromas while on the palate there’s just a touch of caramel richness vanilla creaminess to go with delicate lemon and lime flavours. Beautifully rounded and balanced there’s a good persistence of flavour right through to the finish.
Food
Pairs perfectly with poultry, grilled fish and soft French cheeses.
