Region

The Southern Rhone is home to many famous appellations with a great variety of soils and microclimates, though in general sees ideal growing conditions that are warm and dry, with the Mistral wind proving a defining feature. Grenache forms the backbone of southern Rhône blends, including Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and Vacqueyras. With a range of varieties grown, the region sees a range of styles produced from quality red and white wines to the aromatic dessert wine Muscat de Beaumes de Venise.

Producer

The cooperative cellar of the Castelas winegrowers was founded in 1952, originally set up by a handful of local farmers, who came together to produce honest, high quality wines from the Rhone Valley. Since then, several generations have succeeded one another to produce wines in accordance with their traditions; agriculture that respects people and the land. Today Les Vignerons de Castelas brings together 45 families of winegrowers across 450 ha, many of which are farmed with organic viticulture as they are committed to healthy vines in healthy, living soil. Their aim is to make wines that can be enjoyed whatever the occasion.
Tasting Notes
Pinard is a French term for an easy drinking wine that boosted morale for infantrymen in the war. This Grenache dominated blend gives a soft wine which has been made as a jovial drink to have with friends. 5 weeks of skin contact maceration and ageing in concrete. A nose with notes of delicious red fruits, raspberry and cherry. Fresh and light on the palate, hints of typical Rhone spice, with discreet, smooth tannins and balanced acidity.
Food
Can be served slightly chilled, a perfect accompaniment for a barbecue.
