Region

The Southern Rhone is home to many famous appellations with a great variety of soils and microclimates, though in general sees ideal growing conditions that are warm and dry, with the Mistral wind proving a defining feature. Grenache forms the backbone of southern Rhône blends, including Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and Vacqueyras. With a range of varieties grown, the region sees a range of styles produced from quality red and white wines to the aromatic dessert wine Muscat de Beaumes de Venise.

Producer

La Villa des Nymphes was taken over by Eric Petitjean in 2019, a previous grower in Champagne. The estate is based in Rasteau, on the edge of the Massif des Baronnies, faces Mont Ventoux. Named after the discovery of an ancient alter dedicated to the Nymphs, a relic of the Roman era that was found in 1850 on the current site. The estate has execptional terroirs of complex soil types make up the vineyards split over key villages, which are all certified organic. In the winery Christophe Didier prefers the use concrete eggs over oak, with a minimal intervention approach and the wines show great elegance and finesse.
Tasting Notes
These vineyards made up of clay and limestone soils are based under Mont Ventoux. Each variety is hand harvested and then undergoes whole bunch pressing separately, this method is associated with high quality whites and gives a delicate structure and profile to the wine. Ambient fermentations in inox tanks preserve the natural aromas and flavours of the variety. Soft. spring fragrances of white lilacs and white peaches are followed by flavours of spice, lemon mint, corsican tangerine and apricot. The lovely oily texture is balanced by a crisp mineral acidity.
Food
Ideal with richer grilled white fish like hake or sea bass.
