Region

This region includes the southern Burgundian vineyards of Givry, Mercurey, Rully and Montagny which are all close to the town of Chalon just 30 minutes south of Beaune in the heart of Burgundy. Very rural and unspoilt these vineyards are planted with Chardonnay & Aligote for whites and Pinot Noir for reds. The soils are a mix of limestone, schist and clay, and when combined with a warmer climate than Burgundies from further North the wines have a fuller, riper character. These excellent wines generally offer attractive early drinking, that are often a great taste of `Classic Red & White Burgundy`.

Producer

Domaine Besson is a family-owned estate located in Givry in the Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy. It has 8.40 hectares of vines. It has been property of the Besson family since the 1930s and headed by Guillemette and Xavier Besson since 1989. They focus on creating wines which are the true expression on the terroir and make some of the few white wines that are made in Givry.
Tasting Notes
A wonderfully concentrated Givry made from Pinot Noir, full of bramble fruits on the nose with some slight floral undertones. The palate is silky and smooth with blackberry fruits and cinnamon spices. The soft palate is complemented by earthy tannins and a long, elegant finish.
Food
Serve alongside roasted game or cold meats.
