Region

Known affectionately as the `pais de los poetas` or `country of poets`, Chile is one of South America`s most important wine-producing countries. This is a vast area spanning 4300km running north-south between the Pacific and Andes, which is home to a wide range of terroirs, and an equally wide range of wine styles. The Pacific, with its Antarctic Humboldt Current, brings cooling breezes to more coastal vineyards in regions such as the Casablanca and Limari valleys. Meanwhile, the sheltering presence of the Coastal mountain range makes Chile`s Central Valley relatively warm and dry. Chile is recognized for the quality and value they bring to the wine industry as well as the range of styles they are able to produce.

Producer

Emiliana Organic Vineyards have a presence in Chile’s most prestigious wine valleys, from Limari to Bio Bio. All organic wines grown in a way that preserves the natural balance of life and helps sustain the environment for the future. A key focus is to use no chemicals, no synthetic pesticides, fertilisers or additives to ensure better quality and sense of place. Maycas de Limari wines are part of this range, coming from the Limari region known for its elegant expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Emiliana have been certified Fairtrade since 2011, celebrated 25 years of organic agriculture in 2023 and in 2024 they achieved B-Corp certification.
Tasting Notes
This Alsatian variety, known for its vibrant aromatics, is normally grown in very cool regions such as Alsace and Germany. Growing in the slightly more temperate climate of Chile, the tropical fruit flavours shine through excellently with this wine. Fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the aromatics of the grapes, the nose offers floral aromas of jasmine and rose petals, lychee, herbs and notes of honey. Further floral notes on the palate are complemented by apple, apricot and mandarin orange, followed by a persistent sweet and fruity finish.
Food
Some sweetness in the wine makes this ideal as an aperitif or served with mild cheeses, ham or dried fruit and nuts. This also pairs excellently with sushi or fresh fruit desserts.
