Region
The Pays d`Oc is a hot, dry, hilly region of contrasting soil types adjoining the Mediterranean coast. It is perfectly adapted to the cultivation of the vine, which by origin is a Mediterranean plant. The hills surrounding the city of Carcassonne are the source for this wine, where the limestone serves to keep the roots relatively cool, thus providing a freshness in this hot environment. The wines are fruity and fresh, showing great expression of their varieties. The area grows a range of French varietials such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Grenache for reds and for whites Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Producer
Established in 1967 in Arzens in the Aude, Les Vignobles Foncalieu is a union of cooperative wineries rooted in the heart of the Languedoc. Over 800 growers work everyday to bring the best from the terroirs from Languedoc- Roussillon, to produce exceptional wines. The name Foncalieu is made up of letters of villages in the region of l`Aude - Fonties de Aude, Capendu - Alzonne - Montolieu. Foncalieu are HVE certified, they advocate strongly for biodiversity. The trees and hedges around some of their vineyards provide shelter for bats, which feed on the insects that are harmful to the vines. A virtuous circle.
Tasting Notes
This aromatic Sauvignon Blanc is made protectively in stainless steel to preserve the varietal character of the juice. On appearance it is yellow in colour with green glints, and the nose is typically grassy with zesty citrus character particularly notes of lemon and lime. The palate is bursting with crisp apple, ripe pear and citrus notes for a well-rounded wine, balanced with fresh acidity. A beautifully crisp white to transport you to the South of France.
Food
Enjoy with light dishes or bright summer salads.
